Cognizant Aptitude Questions 2026

3 October 2026 · Pocket Aptitude Team

Cognizant’s fresher assessment is usually described as quant, logical reasoning and verbal sections, sometimes with a game-based or communication round, but sources give five different structures, from 25 questions to 80. Cognizant’s own pages name only the stages and the skills tested, not counts or timings. Topics are consistent across sources; the format isn’t.

A note on sourcing: Cognizant’s careers pages describe the hiring process in general terms only. Every question count, timing and section name below comes from prep-site reporting as of October 2026, and those sources contradict each other. We separate what Cognizant states, what sources broadly agree on, and what they dispute, and we haven’t picked a figure to settle a disagreement. Check your own test invite before relying on any number here.

What Does Cognizant Officially Say?

On its GenC program page, Cognizant describes a five-step flow: application, screening, assessment, interview and result. The assessment is described as covering “communication skills, aptitude and/or technical skills”. Candidates need a resume and academic certificates, campus hiring runs through placement offices, and off-campus hiring is for open positions, with recruiters contacting candidates by email.

The page gives no eligibility thresholds, question counts, timings, or details about game-based or adaptive testing.

Why Do Sources Describe Five Different Tests?

Reported versionWhat it says
Largest80 questions in 100 minutes: numerical 25 (35 min), reasoning 35 (45 min), verbal 20 (20 min). Repeated across several prep sites
Smallest25 questions in 35 minutes: 10 quant, 10 logical, 5 verbal
Mid-size55 questions in 55 minutes: 16 quant, 14 logical, 25 verbal (this contradicts the 25-question version from the same site)
Time-only45 minutes aptitude, 60 minutes coding and 30 minutes communication, with no question counts
With games30 quant questions in 30 minutes plus 4 game-based questions in 50 minutes

Some of these may reflect different hiring programs, years or clusters, but the sources we read don’t say which version applies to which. That is why we can’t give you one count.

Where Else Do Sources Disagree?

DetailWhat different sources say
Game-based roundSome sources describe one (about four games); others don’t mention it, and Cognizant’s pages don’t either
Adaptive testOne source says the platform is adaptive; another says it isn’t
Communication round60 questions in 58 minutes in one source; a candidate account describes a 60-minute Versant (spoken-English) test
Technical round120 or 105 minutes depending on the cluster; one source says 3 questions, a candidate account says 5
Negative markingSeveral prep sites say none, but Cognizant doesn’t confirm it
EligibilityFigures of 60% (and 70% for GenC Next, citing a campus brochure that isn’t linked) versus 60% or 6 CGPA with a gap of up to two years

We found no reliable cutoff, so we haven’t quoted one.

Which Topics Are Reported?

Here the sources broadly agree, so this is the most dependable part of the picture.

Quantitative: percentages, ratios and proportion, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, probability, algebra and geometry. Some sources add HCF and LCM, simple and compound interest, mixtures, logarithms, permutations and combinations, pipes, clocks and calendars, and ages.

Logical reasoning: coding-decoding, seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, puzzles, and series.

Verbal: reading comprehension, sentence correction, para-jumbles, and synonyms and antonyms.

Practice Questions in the Reported Style

These are original practice questions written for the reported topics, not claims that they appeared on a real Cognizant test.

1. Time, speed and distance. A train 150 m long passes a pole in 15 seconds. What is its speed in km/h? Answer: 36 km/h. Speed = 150 ÷ 15 = 10 m/s, and 10 × 18/5 = 36 km/h.

2. Profit and loss. A shopkeeper sells an item at a 10% loss. Had he sold it for ₹1,350 more, he would have gained 5%. What is the cost price? Answer: ₹9,000. The two selling prices are 0.90 and 1.05 of the cost price, so 0.15 × CP = 1,350 and CP = ₹9,000.

3. Probability. Two fair dice are rolled. What is the probability that the sum is 7? Answer: 1/6. Six of the 36 equally likely outcomes sum to 7: (1,6), (2,5), (3,4), (4,3), (5,2), (6,1).

4. Coding-decoding. If CAT is coded as XZG, how is DOG coded? Answer: WLT. Each letter is replaced by its mirror in the alphabet (A↔Z, B↔Y and so on), so D→W, O→L, G→T.

5. Blood relations. Pointing to a man, Meera says, “He is the son of my mother’s only brother.” How is the man related to Meera? Answer: cousin. Her mother’s only brother is her maternal uncle, and his son is her cousin.

6. Syllogism. Statements: Some doctors are teachers. All teachers are writers. Conclusions: I. Some doctors are writers. II. All writers are teachers. Which follows? Answer: only I. The doctors who are teachers are also writers. Conclusion II reverses “all teachers are writers”, which doesn’t follow.

7. Sentence completion. The list of required documents ___ on the desk. (is / are) Answer: is. The subject is “list”, which is singular, not “documents”.

How to Prepare When the Format Is Unclear

The topics are the stable part, so prepare those. Cover the quantitative list first, because it’s the most consistently reported, then reasoning, then verbal. Practise under time pressure, since every version is timed, and keep a little room for a communication round and for a game-based section, which some sources describe and others don’t.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Cognizant aptitude test for freshers?

It’s most often described as timed quant, logical reasoning and verbal sections. Cognizant’s own pages describe the assessment only as covering communication skills, aptitude and/or technical skills, so the detail comes from prep sites.

How many questions are in the Cognizant aptitude test?

Sources disagree: figures of 25, 34, 55 and 80 questions all appear. Check your own test invite instead of relying on a single count.

Is there a game-based round in Cognizant’s assessment?

Some prep sources describe one with about four games, while others don’t mention it, and Cognizant’s pages don’t either. Treat it as reported but unconfirmed.

Is there negative marking in the Cognizant test?

Several prep sites say there is none, but Cognizant doesn’t state it. Confirm against your own test instructions.

What is the eligibility for Cognizant’s fresher hiring?

Reported figures include 60% (and 70% for GenC Next) with no standing arrears, or 60% or 6 CGPA with a gap of up to two years. These conflict between sources, so confirm with your placement office or Cognizant’s careers page.

Which topics should I practise for Cognizant?

Percentages, ratios, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance and probability for quant; coding-decoding, seating arrangements, blood relations and syllogisms for reasoning; and reading comprehension and sentence correction for verbal.
